Ash Shaykh Bakr bn Abee Zayd [rahimahuLlahu] said;

"There is a good article by Ustaadh 'Umar Farûkh in Majmu' Al Lughah Al 'Arabiyyah Magazine in Egypt,he said in it;

And,if the esteemed people want to greet each other,they would say;sabaahul khayr or masaahul khayr.And,the response to these are;Sabaah An Nûr -Masaah An Nûr.

These greetings are the greetings of the fire-worshipper.They belief in two powers;The Good(Al Khayr) and The Evil (Ash-Shar);They are represented as; An Nûr(The Light) and Adh Dhulmah(The Darkness).

The fire-worshipper have two gods;for the good(khayr) or light (nûr) and gods for evil(shar)or darkness (dhulmah).They contend to dominate the world.Thus,it is known among the fire-worshipper to greet each other with their sayings;Sabaahu al khar or sabaah an nûr,though Islaam had commanded us to stick to the Islamic greeting;(As salaam 'Alaykum)in place of any other greetings.The Arabs, including the esteemed one among them-from the Muslims and non-Muslims-don't stop exchanging the with sabaahul khar and sabaahun nûr.

An Nawawee said;

"If a passer-by greets who passes via him; sabahakaLlahu bil khayr or sa'adah or QawwaakaLlaahu,Laa awshaLlahu minka and among others from the wordings people use in the custom,it has no right to be answered,but if he supplicates for him before it,it is good,otherwise the response should be absolutely abandoned,checking him on what he abandoned and to discipline him and others to have concern for initiating greeting with as salaam alaykum.

Ibn 'Alaan said in his expalanation to (An Nawawee's opinion) it;

"All these wordings has no source in the (Islamic) greeting,and nothing is authentic from it"

Ibn Muflih(one of the foremost students Ibn Taymiyyah) mentioned in Al Adaab Ash Shari'yah;

"It was mentioned from Al Imaam Ahmad and some narrations permit initiating greeting with this inlieu of As salaam ('alaykum)"

Then he(ibn Muflih) said;

It is cleared from this,its example is sufficient;kayfa asbahta and kayfa amsayta inlieu os as salaam( alahkum).And,he should reply the initiator with these.Though,as initiation of greeting with salaam (alaykum) and relying it, is better and perfect."

Ash Shaykh Bakr bn Abee Zayd said;

Rather,initiation of greeting apart from As salaam (alaykum) opposes the sunnah,and the narrations reported opposing (the Shaykh position) it are weak.They cannot be used as an evidence.
