MR LEE, THAT YOUR STORY OF FALSEHOOD MAY NOT SELL IN THE FUTURE

…THAT YOUR STORY OF FALSEHOOD MAY NOT SELL IN THE FUTURE A few years ago when I started out on Facebook, Nigerians were very few on the site then as the social media fire was just catching on here. I had to have some friends, and I made good use of my old reading list. I wasn’t a frequent visitor to the blog of a certain Umar Lee, but the little times I went there, I have had one or two things to nod my head in approval to. Not knowledge based stuffs, as he was never on the path of ‘ilm but stuffs which by his standard (being a revert who was not really striving in the path of knowledge and being a full time cab driver) were still ok. I looked him up on Facebook and added him. To understand where I was coming from, one other person I added on the same day as this fellow was Adisa Banjoko; the Hip Hop journalist. To me, Umar Lee was any other American Muslim revert- never one to look out for based on knowledge and there were quite a few of such knowledgeable people alhamduliLlaah. Umar Lee’s blog which made me know him was far from being Islamically safe for a learner in the deen. It contained a lot of objectionable issues like discussions on Hip-Hop, boxing and even some distorted thoughts about Islam- I remember he once argued for a change in the way capital punishments are done in the Shariah such that stoning is replaced with lethal injections. However, I liked his courageous presentation of issues and his readiness to always bear his Islamic identity. Alas, I was wholesomely wrong. Time went on fast and I started seeing a series of his writings he called “The Rise and Fall of the Salafi Dawah”. This became very popular with people of desire who were not pleased with the growth of the Salafi dawah in the West and those that were not patient enough to learn the dawah the right way. I read the articles and to me they made no sense. They were just musings on what Brother A or Masjid B did that made people start having aversion for the dawah. In essence, it lacked substance but was rather a jumble of individual misgivings. Maybe my biased mind made me see it this way but it was really catching on with those who were for it. Umar Lee was celebrated by such people (and I wish I could see their faces now). Essentially, it was Umar Lee’s argument for why he stopped being Salafi. I can say that he never was actually. (Reminds you of a certain Yasir Qadhi (or Kazi?)). While he made it known that he was no more Salafi, he still claimed to follow the Imams of the dawah and agreed with its belief system. He was gravitated more towards the Harakees. Months passed and probably a year or two too. Umar Lee made a pronouncement that he is now officially Sufi. Wait a minute! Are you kidding me? How come? What were his reasons? This is someone who would readily dress down Sufis and apologetic pacifist Muslims. Well it so happened that Umar Lee had a dream about a certain Sufi Shaykh based somewhere in America. In his dream, the Shaykh blessed him and the rest is history. LOL..Seriously?! Who says that kind of thing and switches religions based on “religious experience” if not some Buddhist or Christian??? Well, it later turned out it’s a future Christian. I remember engaging him and telling him the folly in doing such a thing. Quite a number of the good brothers and sisters from the United States (and here is how I got to know a lot of them on Facebook) were also involved in trying to convince him to get back to thinking ways. He refused and used all sort of derogatory words on Salafis. Three evil things came together inside this fellow. First was his pathological disdain for Salafiyyah and some Salafi daees. He had a special yearning for the flesh of Dawud Adeeb and Musa Richardson. He had written an epilogue on how Musa Richardson allows the consumption of gelatin and how Salafis ain’t spiritual. He claimed the never do nawaafil and don’t fast Mondays and Thursdays. Poor him, he doesn’t know the place of nawaafil prayer is the home. The second problem he had was the devilish visitation of his Shaykh who he would refer to as holy and the camp of the man as being a holy land. (Can anyone remind me of the Shaykh’s name and I hope he isn’t also a Reverend now). The third thing was the “love and encouragement” that the Sufis showed him on Facebook and his blog. They were all quick to welcome him to their fold and together with him tongue lash Salafiyyah. My comments on his posts became dangerous and had to be removed by him. Wanted to unfriend him but deliberately decided against this so as t see what his next diatribe against Salafiyyah would be. It did come regularly and I had to ignore some. One day, he accused Salafis of living on welfare packages from the US government, marrying many wives on the package and pushing their women into immoral acts. I got aggrieved and did what I think I should do. I told him I don’t stay in the US but I am sure if what he said is true, it would be the entire Muslim Community so why single out Salafis? He got mad and was going to hit the floor. He accused Salafis of being lazy and his sufi bandwagon joined in too. One related a story about sisters refusing to take their hijab off for work and thus ending up poor. She claimed they were wrong to do that and got the support of her evil brothers too who believed you should shave your beard and drag your thobe if that is what it takes to get a job. I was amazed; you were all accusing Salafis of not being spiritual??!! And in my Ibadan-Nigerian boy style, I said; “Oh sorry, they ain’t spiritual if they don’t sleep in dog houses and eat sand???!”. That was too much for them and they decided to do away with me. He unfriended me and that was it. I decided to block him too and that was the last I heard about him. This morning, checking my Facebook, in a post aptly called “The Rise and Fall of Umar Lee’s Deen”; one of the brothers I got to know during the first issue, Dylan Doer informed us that Umar Lee has become Christian. In fact, the moronic attitude of this guy and the neocon Christian anti-Islam people knows no bounds. He is now the poster boy of their campaign. A serial changer of religious beliefs; watch out for him at the Osun-Oshogbo Groove or Dalai Lama’s place next year. Here is a guy who was so much on the extreme Osama-bin-Laden-type of Islam and that is exactly what the bigger dullards at jihadwatch are celebrating. Well, dude, like I told you then; Salafiyyah never felt you, we never missed you because we never even knew you. Islam won’t miss you and I think Christianity will miss you when you decide to jump ship again just as Sufism should have started missing you now. The Sufis ran to press to celebrate it then just as the neocons and evangelical Christians are doing too now. You were, and are still a joke. But, on the other hand, I’m not sure of your mental state. (This is said with all seriousness now!) Imaam Barbaharee in Sharh us Sunnah said: “And beware of small matters that have been newly introduced, because small innovations grow, until they become large. And likewise every innovation that was introduced into this nation, it was something small initially having resemblance to the Truth so those who entered into it were fooled by that, then he (that person) was not able to depart from it.; so it grew large and it became the religion which they followed. So the person diverged from the Straight Path and exited from Islaam.” See how innovations gradually grow into disbelief. Sufism is a lot similar to Christianity and his reasons for becoming Sufi were just too much like reasons a Christian would give for becoming Christian. It lacked substance and there was no reasonable point whatsoever. And his hatred for the Salafi dawah was also built on his dislike for the salafi way of refutation. This religion has always thrived on refutations and that is how evil thoughts have been kept off it. For those of us who still have a problem with people because they do refutations, watch it! Those of us, who still claim Sufis are Sunnis, “in the broader sense of the word Sunni”, watch it! Those who also claim that Sufism is a branch or science in Islam, I fear for you. Sufism has never been part of Islam and if it doesn’t lead to kufr, it takes one close to it. I wish I could ask those evil Sufis what they think of Umar Lee now. Well, Jalaludin ar-Rumi, one of their scholars believes the Synagogue is like the Kaabah and the Church or Buddhist temple doesn’t differ from a mosque. i.e the idol worshipper or the Christian all worship the same Allaah that Muslims worship. That is the core belief of Sufism – that of immanence and unity of existence. Knowing what you face of possible eternal damnation Mr Lee, I’m not happy about this.( but am I sad? Well!?!) But the lessons inherent here should be pointed out and leant. May Allaah guide him back to Islam and the way of the sunnah which is the way of haqq. …So that this fellow does not come in the future to write about his religious experience and then start getting some silly attention.
