Sittings of Ramadan: Day One and Two

Describing the Qur'aan in the foretalk of Madaarijus Saalikeen Bayna Manaazil Iyyaaka na'budu Wa Iyyaaka Nastaeen, Al-Imaam Shamsuddeen Abu Abdillaah Muhammad bn Abee Bakr, popularly known as Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, may Allaah bestow on him, said:

The Qur'aan is the criterion between guidance and misguidance, doubt and certainty. Allaah revealed it for us to ponder on, to seek foresight with it, to believe in it, to strive to abide with its dos and don'ts, to pluck from its lofty trees through which we can get to Allaah.

That Qur'aan is the Book for he who wants to know Allaah, the path he can take to reach Allaah. It is the Light of Allaah which if cast on any darkness it brings it profound illumination. It is the Rahmah from Allaah with which is what can bring benefits to all the creatures, and the link between Allaah and His slaves even when other (worldly) means cut off.

The Qur'aan is the Greatest Door to Allaah with which one can enter His Garden, it is always open even when other doors are closed. It is the Straight Path that non human thought can corrupt. It is the Wise Reminder which no base desire can stain. It is the meal which all scholars eat from yet not to their fill. Its wonders shall never end. Its canopy shall never be brought down by the wind. Its signs shall never cease. Its pointers shall never differ from one another. The more people seek sight from it the more they increase in guidance. The more they drink from its spring the more water gushes from it.

It is the light for he who is blind (spiritually), the cure to all (spiritual) ailments. It gives light to the hearts. It nourishes the souls. It drags the souls to the blissful end. It beckons morning and night: O people seeking success, come over to success!
