The Attributes of Ilaahiyyah (Divinity) for Allaah are Perfect, Free from Comparison, Faults and Blemishes.

'Allaah' is the Greatest Name of Allaah, because it contains the meanings of all the other Names as well as the Lofty Attributes.

This is the reason all other Names are attributed to 'Allaah' not otherwise.

We say 'ar-Rahman, ar-Raheem, al-Qudoos, as-Salaam, Al-Azeez, al-Hakeem are Names of Allaah.' We don't say, 'Allaah is from the Names of Al-Azeez.'

Therefore 'Allaah' is the Greatest Name of Allaah because of what it contains of the Divine and Lofty Attributes.

The name 'Allaah' is like a Mujmal (summary) of other names which are Mufassal (detailed).

It points to Allaah as the Only One worthy of worship, exaltness, love, awe, etc.

It also indicates the Perfection of Allaah in His Lordship and Mercifulness. Both of which indicate His Perfect Control and Praise.

Therefore it is illogical to say Allaah Who possesses all these attributes is not Living, Hearing, Seeing, Able, Talking; cannot do what He desires and not Wise in His Actions.

He is also Ar-Rahmaan Who possesses the Attribute of Mercy.

He is ar-Raheem Who is merciful to His slaves.

He is wider in mercy to all when referred to as Ar-Rahmaan but limits His enormous mercy to the believers when referred to as ar-Raheem.

He said He Ar-Rahmaan establishes Himself on the Throne. He didn't say otherwise.

The secret in that is because the A'rsh (Throne) is the widest of Allaah's creation so He Ar-Rahmaan Who is the Vastest in mercy makes a connection between both.

Allaah's mercy supercedes His anger.

It has come in the hadeeth of Abu Hurairah - radiyallahu anhu - that the Messenger of Allaah - sallallahu alayhi wa sallam - said:

'When Allaah decreed the affairs of His creation, He wrote in a Book which was with Him on the Throne, 'Indeed My mercy overpowers My anger.' (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)
