Sa’eed Al-Maqburee narrated from Abu Hurairah that he said:

I was under the siege with ‘Uthmaan in the house (the day he was murdered), a man from among us was killed with an arrow.

I said: ‘O Leader-of-the-believers, now it is good to fight back; they have murdered a man among us.’

‘Uthmaan said: ‘O Abu Hurairah, I have asked you to throw away your sword. It is my life that they (the rebels) seek; I shall save the believers with my life today.’

Abu Hurairah said: ‘I then threw away my sword, I did not know where it fell till this hour.’

[May Allaah be pleased with ‘Uthmaan bn ‘Affaan].
