The Only Mango Fruit

On the path to farm
Sighted some mango fruits
Plenty they were
'Nice. I shall devour them early morning tomorrow'
Not out of greed but hunger
Real hunger!
Those days Allaah was the support
He has never ceased to
The morrow came and mangoes gone
The hungry schoolboys had done justice
Not out of greed
But hunger
Real hunger!
We're all hungry on this continent
Yet there remained one beautiful mango
Very beautiful and ripe
It's the only mango on the big tree
'Why did the schoolboys leave it behind?'
That remains a puzzle
Well all hope was not lost
It must be brought down
Then there was a fight between me and the tree
The mother tree hid its only daughter where 'ponpo' would not reach
The brawl lasted some fifteen
Yes the victory was ours
We the African men
One, two, three step
It was on the palm
'Yeh, the only mango fruit is infested'
The maggots inside were in tens
I threw it down and some tears came down the cheeks
There was none to console except Allaah
O Allaah save this ummah from hunger and poverty
We have no other Nourisher except You
