The Effect of One Statement (1)

In the history of Islam, there had been scholars who made a lot of in-roads in the Islamic scholarship whereby the source of their interest in their particular field or work was as a result of a statement they heard either from their teacher or someone else.

We like to look at some of those scholars and the statements that made impact on them.

The first on the list is Al-Imaam Al-Bukhaaree Muhammad bn Ismaeel, rahimahullaah.

The book, Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree, is a book today which a mere mention of a narration from it is relied on by all the Muslims (save the Shia, the criminals).

But what ignited Al-Bukhaaree into writing this Saheeh?

It was a statement he heard in a sitting that made a mark on his heart from where he picked an interest in compiling the Saheeh.

What statement?

He was in the gathering of Al-Imaam Ishaaq bn Raahuway (one his teachers) one day when the latter said: 'What if any of you can compile a book to contain (only) what is authentic in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah ï·º?'

That was it!

Al-Imaam Al-Bukhaaree took up the challenge and gathered his Saheeh which became the most authentic book on the surface of earth after the Noble Qur'aan.

We are still in the series
