A Muslim's particular day can either be fruitful, active and purposeful, or otherwise; its cause is right from the manner of waking up from the morning sleep.

Aboo Hurairah - radiyallaahu anhu - reported from the Messenger of Allaah - sallallaahu alahyi wa sallam - that he said:

'Verily Shaytaan ties three knots at the tail end of the head of any of you when he sleeps; he writes on each knot: 'You have a long night so have your sleep.' If he wakes up and remembers Allaah the Mighty (by saying this among others), a knot loosens. If he goes ahead to make ablution, another knot loosens. If he carries on to observe Salaah all the knots will loosen and he will become active and hearty, otherwise he will become gloomy and lazy.'

Recorded by Al-Bukharee and Muslim.
