Questioner: Whenever I have disagreement with my husband, he would threaten me with divorce by saying: "I will divorce you now, I will divorce you now", and I am always afraid of this (his utterance), please, help me to advice my husband.

Ustadh Qomardeen: So that he won't say that again?

(Laughter from the Congregation).

Ustadh Qomardeen: We plead on her behalf, please for Allaah's sake, At-Talaaq (divorce)! By Allaah, this is not a good utterance, because by saying you want to divorce her, it means that you no longer love her; that is what you are saying indirectly. Once she knows that you no longer love her, she will plan on how she can 'build the house' (change her actions) as a result of what you are saying (threatening her with divorce).

Therefore, the best thing to do when a wife offends you is to forgive her and one should talk to her by admonishing her (with the Words of Allaah and His Messenger). This is the best thing to do.

And Allaah knows best.
