From Attâ who said, 'Ubayd bn Umayr and I entered upon Aaisha – may Allâh be pleased with her – who then said to Ubayd bn Umayr: 'This is the time for you to visit us.' He replied: 'O mother, I say as the first said: 'Visit at intervals increases love.' He said, 'She – may Allâh be pleased with her – said: 'Spare us from this your gibberish!' Ibn Umayr said: 'Tell me the most wondrous thing you saw in the Messenger of Allâh.' He said, 'She kept quiet after which she said, 'There was a night he – Sallallâhu alayhi wa sallam – said, 'O Aaisha, leave me let me worship my Lord.' I said, 'By Allâh, I love to be close to you and I love whatever pleases you.' She – may Allâh be pleased with her – said, 'The Messenger of Allâh – Sallallâhu alayhi wa sallam – then stood up and cleaned himself after which he began to observe prayer.' She – may Allâh be pleased with her – said, 'He did not cease from crying until his side became wet.' She – may Allâh be pleased with her – said, 'He was sitting while he went on crying until his beard became soaked.' She – may Allâh be pleased with her – said, 'He still went on crying until the ground became soaked. Bilâl then came announcing Prayer to him. When Bilâl saw the Messenger of Allâh – Sallallâhu alayhi wa sallam – crying, he said, 'O Messenger of Allâh – Sallallâhu alayhi wa sallam – , you cry while Allâh has forgiven you your past and future sins?' He – Sallallâhu alayhi wa sallam – said, 'Shouldn't I be a thankful servant of Allâh? Indeed a Verse was revealed to me last night; woe unto whomever recites it but does not reflect upon it: "Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and In the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding."

Ibn Hibbân recorded it in his Sahîh, Book of Ar-Raqaaq, Chapter of Mention of the Explanation That man Can Remain Crying If He Is Away from People (number: 621).
