Said Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah - rahimahullahu

'It is not permissible to render absolute and general support for anybody but the person of the Messenger of Allaah - sallaallahu alahyi wa sallam; neither can such support be given to any group except the Companions - may Allaah be merciful to all of them. This is because guidance used to revolve round the Messenger of Allaah - sallaallahu alahyi wa sallam - wherever he was, and round his Companions, not companions of other than him.'

قال شيخُ الإسلامِ ابنُ تيمية
 -رحمه اللهُ -:

فلا يُنتصرُ لشخصٍ انتصارًا مُطلقًا عامًّا إلّا لِرسولِ اللهِ ﷺ، ولا لِطــائِـفـةٍ انتـصـارًا مُـطـلَقًا إلّا لِلصّـحــابـةِ -رضي الله عنهم- أجمـعـين؛ فإنّ الهُدى يَدورُ معَ رسولِ اللهِ ﷺ حيثُ دارَ، ومَعَ أصحابِه دونَ أصحابِ غيرِه
