"This is one of the greatest deceits to the Muslims, i.e., to remain silent about the people of innovation and not clarify their innovations. This is like deceiving the Muslims. If one goes further to praise and commend them, this is even worse  and more reprehensible, we seek refuge in Allaah from this. It is obligatory for someone who has knowledge to clarify innovations and newly-invented matters in the religion and to forbid and warn against them, and not remain silent. Remaining silent on this matter is as good as concealment of the truth. Allaah says (in the interpretation of the meanings), 'Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Scripture – those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse, except for those who repent and correct themselves and make evident [what they concealed]. Those – I will accept their repentance, and I am the Accepter of Repentance, the Merciful.' Hence, it is not permissible for a Muslim who has knowledge to remain silent about the innovations and violations without clarifying them to the people. If he remains silent, people may use it as a justification saying, 'If it were prohibited or impermissible, why did so-and-so who is a knowledgeable person remain silent about it when he saw it?' That is it."
