Al-Imaam Shaafi'ee, may Allaah have mercy on him, said:
I entered Baghdad and went to Bishr al-Mareesi who lodged me in one of his rooms.
His mother then said: "Why have you come to this one (that is, Bishr)?"
I said: "To hear from his knowledge."
She said: 'He is a Zindeeq (a deviant).
