[5] My Religion Taught Me:
That kindness towards parents and being just in dealings with people are from the means to good fortune in the worldly life and the hereafter, and that ingratitude and disobedience towards parents, and injustice in dealings are from transgressions for which their punishment is hastened in this life. Abu Bakrah narrated from the prophet –Allah raise his rank and grant him peace– that:
"There is no sin more worthy of Allah hastening the punishment upon its practitioner in this world, along with what is in store for him in the Hereafter, than tyranny and severing the ties of kinship." – [Reported by Ashaabu Sunan except An-Nasaa'i and authenticated by Ibn Hibaan and Al-Haakim and Al-Albaani in As-Saheehah: (91)]
And the first kinship tie a Muslim is commanded with it's upholding is with the parents.
Translator's notes:
Here the Shaykh - hafidhahullaah - highlighted the lessons of Islam concerning the Muslim's relationship with the parents and his everyday dealings with other people.
The parents occupy such significant status in Islam so much so that Allah commanded with fulfilling the rights of the parents swiftly after commanding to fulfill His own right, He said –the mighty and sublime–:
"Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship, and be kind to parents" – [Surah An-Nisaa' 36]
Also from the indications to the significance of the parents status in attaining worldly blessings and being fortunate in the hereafter is the statement of the messenger –Allah raise his rank and grant him peace– in the Hadith reported in the sunan of Ibn Majah and sunan At-Tirmidhi on the authority of Abu Hurairah:
"And may a man whose parents reached old age in his presence, and they were not a cause for his entrance to Paradise, be humiliated.†– [Sunan at-Tirmidhi 3545]
So beware of meeting Allah while your parents are not pleased with you, and strive in making sure you attain their pleasure.
And regarding dealing with others the Muslim must be fair and transparent in all his dealings, he should neither be the source of harm to another nor allow other people's wealth to mix with his except via lawful means. The messenger –Allah raise his rank and grant him peace– said from what he reported from his Lord:
Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) said, The Prophet –Allah raise his rank and grant him peace– said, "Allah, the Exalted, and Glorious, said:
"O My slaves, I have prohibited for Myself injustice; and have made oppression unlawful for you, so do not oppress one another." [Saheeh Muslim: 2577]
And In another report the prophet –Allah raise his rank and grant him peace– described the Muslim as someone who doesn't bring people harm:
narrated by Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah said: "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the people are safe, and the believer is the one from whom the people's lives and wealth are safe." – [Sunan an-Nasaa'i 4995]
Then the Shaykh - hafidhahullaah - mentioned that transgressing in this two affairs mentioned is from those sins which demands hastening it's punishment upon the doer in this world, and that will not prevent him from the punishment in prepared for him in the hereafter as evident in the Hadith of Abu Bakrah. Allah –the exalted– is exhaustive in prohibiting ingratitude towards the parents, that He –the might and sublime– prohibited from uttering the least significant statement of displeasure and anger towards them, and that is the expression "uff" (and whatever have similar interpretation), but rather address them with respect. Allah said:
"And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour." – [Surah Al-Isra' 23]
Also be the Abraar in your dealings with people by not letting any harm touch them from you. Al-Hasan Al-Basri say:
"The Abraar are those who will not harm even the small ant. "
Once again my religion taught me to be kind and obedient to parents and be just and fair in my relation with people, to ward off the wrath of Allah in this world and be free from a more severe torment in the hereafter.
And that ends the fifth lesson.
Watch out for more lessons from what my religion taught me...
