This article aims at informing us on the possibility of having Muslim teenagers who can keep themselves chaste, without having boyfriends and girlfriends and from the ravaging and blazing sin of Zina (illegal sexual intercourse with the opposite sex) which has become rampant in our society and other related sins in the Gregorian 21st century.
The article would be in series Inshaa Allaah and it will be supported with evidences from the Qur'an and sunnah upon the understanding of the pious predecessors.
Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a boyfriend as "a frequent or regular male companion in a romantic or sexual relationship." On the other hand, it also defines a girlfriend as " a frequent or regular female companion in a romantic or sexual relationship."
The above definition gave a comprehensive definition of what boy/girlfriend concept is about. This is against the argument of people who say having boy/girlfriend is not about having sex.
Firstly, in Islaam, a male human being is known as a boy, a son, a husband, a man, a brother, a father-in-law, a grandfather e.t.c, while a female human being on the other hand is known as a girl, a sister, a lady, a woman, a wife, a mother e.t.c. As we can see the term, "Boy/Girlfriend" is not recognised in Islam, hence, the reason for its strangeness in islaam.
No doubt, we now live in a society where the morally and uprightly religious people are seen as strangers and uncivilized set of people who have not freed themselves from the old ways of doing things in the society. They are being called all sort of names by family, friends and peer groups who see them as described above.
A teenager above the age of 16 who does not have any boy/girlfriend in this time of ours is seen as an uncivilized youth by large junks of the society - Muslims inclusive - who have been swayed by western civilization and have forgotten their primary aim on earth which is to worship Allaah, as Allaah says in Qur'an Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 56:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُون
"And I have not created the jinn and the men except that they should serve Me".
(English - Shakir).
As seen from the above quoted verse, the main reason we were created by Allaah is to worship Him, which means obeying Him and staying away from sins.
The advancement of technology and the unrestricted use of social media have contributed to the rapid increase in this haraam relationships which usually lead to Zina of the hands, eyes, ears e.t.c. May Allaah protect us.
What is popularly known is Zina of the private part but other types of Zina i.e. Zina of the eyes, hands, tongues and ears also exist as shown in the hadeeth below:
It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Allaah has decreed for every son of Adam his share of zina, which he will inevitably commit. The zina of the eyes is looking, the zina of the tongue is speaking, one may wish and desire, and the private parts confirm that or deny it.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5889; Muslim, 2657.
