This piece is a written as an illustration of the predicament of a Muslim brother in Islam, Mallam Mansur Adepoju al-Khayyaat, may Allaah the Mighty Lord grant him well-being.
Diagnosis: A suffering from the avascular necrosis of the left hip at the point of the femur and acetabulum.
In a layman’s English, the left hip of the brother in question is almost dead, that is, it is practically and generally going to stop working except if Allaah wills.
Cause: about three years ago, Allaah the Mighty Lord tested the little brother with the complications of osteoarthritis – inflammation of the bone joints.
Physical Effects:
[I] Profound and severe pains at the hip region [the left side] that has accounted for systemic and continuous intake of analgesics [pain relievers].
[II] Shortening of the left leg with visible limping and inability to work properly, or walk a little distance.
Past Treatment: Spent weeks at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, three years ago where he had been subjected to various drugs to alleviate the pains before an impending surgical operation.
Present Treatment: He needs to undergo a surgical process to correct the hip malfunction viz. a hip implant. The cost of the treatment has been provisionally put at the sum of N1,679, 630 [One Million, Six Hundred and Seventy-Nine Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty Naira] excluding the post operation maintenance cost. This cost is contained in a communication released by the necessary department of the UCH to the patient on 12th April, 2019, with reference number: HSD 9/PCE/Vol.XVI.
Patient’s Background: His name is Mansur Adepoju, a graduate of Thanawiyyah from Madrasah Tawheed al-Islamiyyah, Ede, and one of its adhoc staff members. An easy-going brother in his mid-twenties, not married. He is seeking admission into one of the tertiary institutions in the country.
