Translation and annotation: Ishaaq bn AbdirRaheem Aboo Aamir
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Arrowheads of bid’a [heresies] saying horrible things about the texts of the Sharee’ah are abound, especially in the Sufi enclaves, and they command big followerhips. Their followers hail they every time they say horrible things, you as a person of Sunnah should be wary of narrating what these heretics say to your own listeners or audience, you may be convinced the sayings are evil but your listeners may not see them so because doubts steal the hearts.
Al-Imaam Sufyaan ath-Thauree – rahimahuLlaah – said:
مَنْ سَمÙعَ بÙبÙدْعَةÙØŒ Ùَلاَ ÙŠÙŽØْكÙهَا Ù„ÙجÙلَسَائÙÙ‡ÙØŒ لاَ ÙŠÙلقÙهَا ÙÙÙŠ Ù‚ÙÙ„ÙوْبÙÙ‡ÙÙ….
‘Whoever hears of a bid’ah should not narrate it to his comrades hence he plants it in their hearts.’
Commenting on the above, al-Imaam adh-Dhahabee – rahimahuLlaah – said:
أَكْثَر٠أَئÙمَّة٠السَّلَÙ٠عَلَى هَذَا التَّØØ°ÙيرÙØŒ يَرَوْنَ أَنَّ القÙÙ„Ùوْبَ ضَعÙيْÙَةٌ، وَالشّÙبَه٠خَطَّاÙÙŽØ©ÙŒ.
‘Most of the scholars among the Salaf are upon this warning; they see it that hearts are weak and that doubts are stealthy thieves.’
Al-Imaam al-As’ma’ee said further: 'Indeed, Ath-Thauree made a passing statement that his books be buried [after him]. He was regretful of some things he wrote from some people.'
