Instances of Time Often Wasted (II)

Our Extra Hours!

Yes there are hours of seriousness and hours of unseriuosness. In most of us, the hours of unseriuosness are more than hours of seriousness.

An hour or two of reading then the rest of the hours for frivolous things such as unresourceful whatsapping, facebooking, twittering, instagramming, snapchatting, tik-tokking and others.

In this era, things that can take us away from judicious use of our time are too many to mention.

From time to time, new apps are being developed to get us busy in the useless ways.

Agreed, there are a lot of benefits from the modern devices. The Facebook, for instance, is now a 'world' on its own. More and more people are getting hooked up and all sorts of things go on there. There is guidance and misguidance but the latter supercedes.

Any religious campaign against the use of the social media will likely not sail through except if Allaah wills. The Muslim users of the social media must set priorities. The social media as well as the Internet, as a whole, can not replace the actual learning of Islam.

We all need self-discipline regarding how we use our time on the social media and otherwise.

Abdullaah bn Abbaas - radiyallaahu an'hu - narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallAahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

نِعْمَتانِ مَغْبُونٌ فِيهِما كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النّاسِ: الصِّحَّةُ والفَراغُ
"Two favours many people suffer loses about them: good health and leisure time." (Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree: 6412)

So let's be watchful of our time.

This does not mean that we should not rest or have time for some other social things like our family. We should however over stretch it.

Every moment of life should be for one learning or the other, actively or passively. We should take good cognizance of our worship. We should not toy with the remembrance of our Creator.

So if you are coming to the social media, make it purposeful either as  a learner or a teacher. Enough of the chit-chats, gossips, arguments, etc.

May Allaah grant us the understanding of the Deen.
