Hajj oix

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
A number of ḥadīths from the Prophetic Sunnah indicate the virtues and rewards of ʿUmrah. Performing ʿUmrah to the Sacred House of Allah is one of the virtuous deeds encouraged by Islamic law. It is necessary for a Muslim who intends to perform ʿUmrah to learn its rulings so that he may perform it correctly. He must learn what is obligatory upon the pilgrim (muʿtamir) and what is recommended, and also learn what the person in the state of iḥrām must avoid—things that may invalidate the ʿUmrah or reduce its reward.

Among the virtues of ʿUmrah is: Forgiveness and removal of sins

Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿUmrah to ʿUmrah is an expiation for what is between them, and the accepted Hajj has no reward except Paradise.” [Reported by al-Bukhārī]

The concept of expiation (kafārah) is based on the verse: “Indeed, good deeds erase bad deeds.”

Another virtue: Allah's honoring of His guests

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The warrior in the cause of Allah, the pilgrim performing Hajj, and the one performing ʿUmrah are the guests of Allah. He called them, and they responded. They ask of Him, and He gives to them.”
[Reported by Ibn Mājah, graded ḥasan by al-Albānī]

Among its virtues: It removes poverty as well as sins

The Prophet ﷺ said:Perform Hajj and ʿUmrah consecutively, for they remove poverty and sins just as the bellows remove impurities from iron.”
[Reported by al-Tirmidhī] This ḥadīth encourages performing Hajj and ʿUmrah frequently. The Prophet ﷺ performed four ʿUmrahs:

1. The ʿUmrah of al-Ḥudaybiyyah in Dhul-Qaʿdah, during which the polytheists prevented him from entering.

2. The ʿUmrah of the following year, also in Dhul-Qaʿdah, after a peace treaty with the polytheists.

3. The ʿUmrah of al-Jiʿrānah, during which he ﷺ distributed the spoils of Ḥunayn.

4. The ʿUmrah performed along with his Farewell Hajj.

It is well known that:  “The reward of a deed increases with the virtue of the time, as well as with presence of heart and sincerity of intention,” as Ibn al-Jawzī (may Allah have mercy on him) said.

From this, it is understood that ʿUmrah during Ramaḍān carries multiplied reward. Ibn Baṭṭāl said:The reward of ʿUmrah during Ramadan equals the reward of Hajj,” but it does not fulfill the obligation of Hajj.

Additional virtues related to ʿUmrah:

Reward of Ṭawāf (Circumambulation)

Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: Whoever performs ṭawāf around the House, for every step he takes, Allah records for him a good deed, erases a sin, and raises him by one degree.”
[Reported by Aḥmad, al-Tirmidhī, al-Ḥākim, and Ibn Khuzaymah; graded ḥasan by Shaykh Aḥmad Shākir]

Virtue of spending for ʿUmrah

ʿĀ’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her regarding her ʿUmrah: You will have a reward according to your effort and your spending.” [Reported by al-Ḥākim, and he said it is authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim]

Virtue of the Two Sacred Mosques

Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“A prayer in my mosque is better than a thousand prayers elsewhere, except for al-Masjid al-Ḥarām. A prayer in al-Masjid al-Ḥarām is better than one hundred thousand prayers elsewhere.” [Reported by Aḥmad and Ibn Mājah with two authentic chains of narration]

And Allah knows best.
