Ramadan Day Eighteen

Al-Ilhaad towards the Names of Allaah the Majestic, as stated previously, is to say the Beautiful Names of Allaah are devoid of meanings.

The second form of Il'haad in the Names of Allaah is to distort certain Names of Allaah, by addition or reduction, and give them to certain idols.

An example is the name Al-Llaat, al-Uzaa, al-Manaat which the people of Jaahiliyyah gave to their idols. Those three names were corruption of 'Allaah', 'Al-Azeez', 'al-Manan' respectively.

Therefore Il'haad is to turn away from what is proper about the Names of Allaah, and including into it what is not there. This of course will cause a great distortion to the meanings of those Names.

Whoever carries out il'haad about the Names of Allaah is a liar, as said by Ibn Abbaas - radiyallahu anhuma.

Telling lies (about the Names of Allaah) is the utmost of il'haad.

Whether it is denial or being repulsive towards it, or rejecting the meanings or abandoning it altogether, or twisting and distortion. All is il'haad.

A striking example is the il'haad of the people of Aqeedah Al-Ittihaad (Wahdatul Wujood), those who gave Names of Allaah to what Allaah created whether praiseworthy creatures or otherwise (then giving those creatures attribute of ilaahiyyah - divinity).
