One of the accusations against Shaykh Yahya al-Hajooree - hafidhahullaah - is that he said
أهل السنة أقرب الطوائ٠إلى الØÙ‚
'The people of Sunnah are the closest people to the truth among the Muslim groups'.
Shaykh Ubayd - rahimahullah - said Shaykh Yahya is wrong to make that statement that he must repent from it.
Shaykh Ubayd in his class as a big Shaykh had the right to challenge a fellow Shaykh (in fact who is younger in age like Shaykh Yahya) and Shaykh Yahya has the right to defend himself.
Now for a Taalib to say, I am not going to listen to the defence on such an issue is a fool and hizbi. He will never be knowledgeable.
That is the problem with these Neo-Hizbees, only 'their' Shuyook can be correct.
Even Al-Imaam Ahmad was not always correct on his judgements on people.
Al-Imaam Ahmad later rejected Yahya bn Maeen, Abu Nasr at-Tammar, Alee b Madeenee, etc, and the Ummah later rejected the rejection of Imaam Ahlis Sunnah wal Jamaa'ah, a mountain of knowledge.
They cited the case of Daawud bn Aliyy adh-Dhaahiree on saying Quraan is Muhdath, that Al-Imaam Ahmad refused to meet him, yes. But did other Aimah reject Daawud?
Did latter scholars also reject his later student, Muhammad bn Hazm, who was also on that Al-Qur’an is Muhdath?
Yes the statement is wrong but those scholars were excused.
(It used to pain these people whenever we say certain scholars were excused in the past).
Of course, when a scholar makes a statement of bid'ah, he has to be refuted. But it is NOT EVERY scholar that fell into one error or the other that is totally rejected.
Let that continue to sadden you.
I am still coming Inshaa Allaah.
