[10] My Religion Taught Me:
Surely there will come deceptive years in which the fool will decide in general affair; on the authority of Abu Hurairah who said: the messenger of Allah —Allah raise his rank and grant him peace— said:
"Verily there will come to the people years of deception, when the liar will be regarded as honest, and the honest will be regarded as a liar; the traitor will be regarded as faithful, and the faithful will be regarded as a traitor; and the Ruwaibidah will decide matters.' It was said: "Who are the Ruwaibidah?' He said: "Foolish despicable man who deciding the affairs of the people.'" - [Musnad Imam Ahmad: 7912, Sunan Ibn Majah: 4036]
Translator's notes:
Here the Shaykh referenced a sign from the signs of prophethood, this is a truthful information from the one who never made speeches from the whim, he spoke about this affair when it hasn't happened nor does anyone know how it will occur or when it will occur.
In the Hadith the prophet —Allah raise his rank and grant him peace— informed us about a time ahead then, in which the condition of the people will be transformed and their understanding will be altered and the balance will be completely reversed.
In this time the people will exist in severe deception and the truthful person will not be known from the deceitful person, and the trustworthy person will not be known from the treacherous one. This period has been described as a time with little good and plenty evils.
From the characteristics of this period is Al-Khidaa'u (الخداع) which is a kind among the different kinds of deceit done to people, and it is a really ancient despicable practice known with the sorcerers and dajjals (imposters) who are known for transforming truth into lies and lies into truth for worldly earnings and to attain status in the worldly life.
Another characteristic of this period is the Ruwaibidah (الرويبضة) which is a diminutive of the word raabidah (الرابضة) with the (taa) ending added for eloquence: it refers to an abject worthless person.
According to Ibn Atheer: "It refers to a feckless person far removed from the noble matters and sedentary from its demands".
And the Prophet —Allah raise his rank and grant him peace— had described him with three attributes, all of which are indicative of deficit, baseness, ignobility and disrepute.
He said:
As-Safee'u (السÙيه): is the one with no intellect or with deficient intellect, a harebrained.
Al-Fuwaisiq (الÙويسق): a diminutive of faasiq, is someone who is immoral and sinful, a renegade from the obedience of Allah.
At-Taafiu (التاÙÙ‡): is a miserable person with no status, worth or significance.
These (Ruwaibidah) are people who make false statements about Allah, His messenger, and His religion, they are despicable people with influence over those who are lacking cognisance in knowledge of the religion. And the prophet had said in an authentic Hadith:
It was narrated by Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Islam began as something strange and will go back to being something strange as it began, so glad tidings to the strangers.†- [Saheeh Muslim: 145]
So when the religion goes back to being strange as the affair is today, where innovations are accepted and celebrated as the deen and the pristine tenets and rites are bizarre and unacceptable by the people, where the Ruwaibidah occupy distinguished statuses and deciding in the affairs of people's lives and religion, then glad tidings to the (ghurabaa') strangers who became outcasts for holding on to the rope of Allah when people have been enticed with various paths of misguidance.
So who are the strangers? The prophet responded to the companions with the following characterisation when he was asked about the ghurabaa'.
"Those who are estranged from the families and tribes" (authentic) - [Sunan Ad-Daarimi:2797]
In another place he said:
"They are righteous people, who are appropriating (restoring) amidst numerous evil people, those who contravene them are more than those who follows them" (authentic) - [Musnad Imam Ahmad: 6650]
These are the people who remain good when majority have become corrupted, righting the misappropriations of people in the lands and rectifying them from their misguidance. They curb the Ruwaibidah with their bayaan (explanation) and arrest and put them in their places by doing kashf for their numerous confusions.
And Allah has promised them Tuubaa (طوبى): and this implies happiness and coolness of the eyes according to Ibn Abbas, Ikrimah said: it implies that they'll have unquantifiable blessings, Qataadah said: it is that they will be overwhelmed with goodness, some others have said it is Al-jannah while some said it is a tree in Al-Jannah. But all of these interpretations are converging and all indicative of a great reward for the ghurabaa'.
Once again my religion taught me that a period of treachery and deception will come upon the people, in which the balances will be tilted and the standards will reversed, when righteousnees will become absurd and the righteous will become strangers, and the Ruwaibidah (despicable, worthless fools) will decide in the affairs of people's lives and religion.
And that ends the tenth lesson
